Anyone wishing to enter Canada who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise visa-exempt will require a visitor visa. Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for a visitor visa even if their permanent resident card has expired. Instead, they must apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD). Canadian citizens, including dual citizenship, are also not allowed to apply for a visitor visa. They must travel with a valid Canadian passport. If you are transiting or coming to Canada on business and not as a temporary foreign worker, you may need a Business Visitor Visa.
A visitor is a foreign national who seeks to come into Canada for a temporary purpose (such as work, study or visit).
You can come to Canada only as tourist, you’ll need enough money to support yourself and everyone included in your application.
Multiple entry visitor visas permit the holder to travel to Canada for six months at a time as many times as they want, as long as the visa remains valid. They can be valid for up to 10 years, but the exact validity period is at the discretion of the visa officer issuing it.
Visitor visas, whether single entry or multiple entry, allow foreign nationals to legally live in Canada for up to six months at a time. At the end of this period, your legal status will expire and you must leave Canada.
There are a number for basic requirements for a Canadian visitor visa. This requirements include:
• have a valid travel document (passport)
• be in good health
• have no criminal or immigration-related convictions
• prove that you have ties such as a job, home, financial assets or family that prove you will be returning to your home country
• prove that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit
• have enough money for your stay which depends where and how long you stay
